Today, the House deliberated on the National Budget Report for FY 2026–2027, the Budget Appropriation Bill for FY 2026–2027, the Supplementary Budget Appropriation Bill for FY 2025–2026, and the Renewable Energy Tax Exemption Bill of Bhutan 2026. The Economic Affairs Committee (EAC), the committee-in-charge, presented its observations and recommendations on the budget-related documents.

In its review of the Supplementary Budget Appropriation Bill for FY 2025–2026, the Committee noted an upward revision of Nu. 1,211.846 million to the originally approved budget of Nu. 138,451.163 million, bringing the total budget to Nu. 139,663.009 million. The Committee found that the revisions were in accordance with the relevant constitutional provisions and the Public Finance (Amendment) Act of Bhutan 2012.

With regard to the Budget Appropriation Bill for FY 2026–2027, the Committee observed that the proposed appropriation of Nu. 153,296.2 million was consistent with the Constitution and other relevant laws. It further noted that total resources were projected at Nu. 110,280.5 million, with the fiscal deficit estimated at 6.5 percent of GDP.

The House supported the recommendations of the Committee. The Budget Appropriation Bill for FY 2026–2027 and the Supplementary Budget Appropriation Bill for FY 2025–2026 are scheduled for adoption on 11 June 2026.

Subsequently, the House deliberated on the Renewable Energy Tax Exemption Bill of Bhutan 2026. The Natural Resources and Environment Committee (NREC), the committee-in-charge, presented its observations and recommendations on the Bill.

The Committee noted that the Bill seeks to support Bhutan’s national goal of achieving 25 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by facilitating the accelerated development of renewable energy projects.

The House is scheduled to adopt the Renewable Energy Tax Exemption Bill of Bhutan 2026 on 11 June 2026.
