30th April, 2026 The Social and Cultural Affairs Committee of the National Council held a consultation meeting with the Hon’ble Thrompon, the Executive Secretary, and relevant officials from Thimphu Thromde, along with officials from the Department of Revenue and Customs (DRC), to deliberate on the Tobacco Control (Amendment) Bill, 2026.

The discussion focused on key proposed amendments relating to emerging tobacco products, strengthening enforcement mechanisms, clarifying institutional mandates among relevant agencies, and taxation aspects linked to emerging tobacco and nicotine products.

The consultation provided valuable inputs from Thimphu Thromde and the DRC, which will inform the Committee’s ongoing review and finalization of the Tobacco Control (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
